Treatment for COVID is available for individuals who are not in hospital but who are considered at highest risk of becoming severely ill and being admitted to hospital. This will include some people, but now everyone who was advised to shield during the pandemic. Some people who were previously shielding now have a much lower risk of severe disease following COVID-19 vaccination. The latest guidance (updated Hune 2023) is available on the following link: https://www.nice.org.uk/guidance/ta878/chapter/5-Supporting-information-on-risk-factors-for-progression-to-severe-COVID-19#box-1-risk-factors-for-progression-to-severe-covid-19-in-adults.
High risk individuals will usually be contacted with 24 hours of a positive PCR test or lateral flow test (LFT) that has been reported at https://www.gov.uk/report-covid19-result. If the results are reported at a weekend or over a bank holiday, individuals will be contacted on the net working day.
The Cardiff COVID-19 Antiviral Services is provided by registered nurses working for the Mass Vaccination Service (MVC) in the PCIC Clinical Board.
