Woodlands are offering Flu Vaccines to all eligible patients. You will be entitled to a Flu Vaccine if you fall in to any of the following groups:

  • over 65s ,
  • Chest problems,
  • Diabetes,
  • Chronic Heart Disease,
  • Chronic Kidney Disease,
  • Chronic Liver Disease,
  • Chronic Neurological Disease,
  • Weakened Immune System,
  • are Pregnant,
  • or are a Carer, a Healthcare worker or living in a Long stay residential home.

We ask that you do not attend your appointment if you are unwell with a temperature, cough or have lost your sense of smell or taste.


Please note, if you are aged 50 to 64 and are not in a risk group, a flu vaccine is due to be made available to you later this year and you will be asked to contact the surgery again in December, the only exception being a household member of a person who has received a Covid 19 shielding letter this year.



You should consider a flu vaccine for your child if they:

  • were aged 2 or 3 years old on 31st August 2020, (ie. born between 1st September 2016 and 31st August 2018), or
  • children born between 1st September 2009 and 31st August 2016, if they are home schooled, or
  • are aged 2 to 17 years old with a long-term health condition (eg. chronic respiratory disease / asthma, diabetes, kidney illness, chronic liver disease, heart disease, weakened immune system or a chronic neurological disease)


Missed Pupils

School pupils in Reception,  Y1,  Y2, Y3, Y4, Y5 and Y6 school years who have been missed may have their vaccination at the surgery, but only if they have a letter from the school nurse



Shingles Vaccines

The Welsh Assembly Government, WAG, has a Shingles Vaccination Programme. It is estimated that Shingles causes up to 1000 deaths a year in the UK.


You will be eligible for the vaccine if you are :

  1. aged 70 on 1st September  2016 (i.e. you were born between 2nd September 1945 and 1st September 1946), or
  2. aged 71 to 74 on 1st September 2016 (i.e. you were born between 2nd September 1942 and 1st September 1945), and have not previously received the vaccine, or 
  3. you were born before 2nd September 1938, AND have not previously received the vaccine AND are still under 80 years old at the time of the vaccination


If you wish to have the Shingles Vaccine please contact the surgery and make an appointment with a Practice Nurse.
